Jamaica's largest coral repository
Following a relentless search throughout northern Jamaica, a small team of consultants including fishers from the Derby Beach community and local graduates from the University of the West Indies has established a thriving gene bank of seventy-five unique strains of the Caribbean’s rarest, yet formerly dominant coral species in the waters off Duncans Bay in Trelawny, with demonstrated thermal tolerance potential to withstand bleaching events. Since January 2025, this work has been supported by the DBMA. Learn more below!
